Bus Stop Club

A Letter From The President:

I am so pleased to share Yankee Trails’ partnership with a local not-for-profit…. Bus Stop Club, Inc.

Bus Stop Club was founded 10 years ago by my cousin Dr. Brian Sheridan. While Dr. Brian was a third-year pediatric resident at the Children’s Hospital at Albany Med, he launched Bus Stop Club.  This program is solely for siblings who have a brother or sister with a chronic illness. Bus Stop Club provides support through intervention, enabling siblings to remain emotionally healthy while coping with having a brother or sister with a critical illness or intellectual disabilities.

When Dr. Brian approached me almost a decade ago to be on the board of Bus Stop Club, we both realized that we needed to hire a full-time leader of this not-for-profit. We looked to my wife, Angela Tobin, a local school psychologist. While growing up in a home where her family ran a financial services company and receiving a Master’s Degree in school psychology, we knew Angela would be the perfect fit for this new organization. We convinced Angela to take over Bus Stop Club and use her background to help these children.

Under Angela’s direction, Bus Stop Club now offers support services to over 400 families in the  Capital District. The amazing staff and volunteers at Bus Stop Club have made this a vibrant organization that the kids want to come back to month after month.

Financially, Yankee Trails is proud to partner with Bus Stop Club. Yankee Trails offers free transportation for these children to places like Christmas Lights in the Park in downtown Albany, Lake George Million Dollar Beach, West Mountain and Six Flags - New England providing opportunities for the children to build rapport with one another and make memories with their families.  We also offer hundreds of tickets to events such as Siena Men’s Basketball games, gift cards to Target for the children to shop during the holiday season and to Santa’s Magical Express. However our resources are best spent when the Yankee Trails staff spends time with Bus Stop Club children. It may be during a pizza party, shopping at Target,  or playing tug of war at the Annual Bus Stop Club BBQ.

I am honored to call myself a board member of the Bus Stop Club and I’m proud of the organization that we have helped create.
